DTC P007C00 – Charge Air Cooler Temperature Sensor Circuit ( Bank 1 )

DTC P007C00 – Charge Air Cooler Temperature Sensor Circuit Low (Bank 1).

What P007C00 Means

The ECM has detected that the Charge Air Cooler Temperature (CACT) sensor for Bank 1 is reading lower voltage than expected, which usually means the sensor is reading an abnormally high temperature or there is an electrical issue.

This sensor is typically located after the intercooler, monitoring the charge-air temperature going into the intake manifold.

Common Causes

Electrical Issues

❌ Open circuit in CACT sensor signal wire

❌ Short to ground on signal wire

❌ Poor connection / corrosion in plug

❌ Damaged wiring near intercooler piping

❌ Faulty CACT sensor

Mechanical / System Issues

Compressor overheating

Blocked intercooler airflow

Boost leaks causing hot intake air

Turbo overworking

Live Data Clues

Check the CACT sensor reading with a scanner:

Condition Normal Reading Faulty Reading

Cold engine Close to ambient temp Very high temp or ―40°C/0°C style reading
Revving Gradually increases No change or spikes

A very high or fixed temperature usually indicates a circuit-low (short to ground) condition.

🔧 Step-by-Step Diagnostic Procedure

1. Visual Inspection (Most Common Fix)

Look for:

Oil contamination in connector

Broken connector lock

Pin pushed out

Wires rubbed through on intercooler pipe or fan shroud

👉 Repair/replace damaged wiring or connectors.

2. Check CACT Sensor 2-Pin Connector

Most CACT sensors are NTC (like IAT sensors).

Key Pin Tests

5V reference – should read around 5V

Ground continuity – should be < 0.3Ω

If 5V is missing → trace back to ECM / wiring
If ground is missing → repair body ground splice

3. Resistance Test (Sensor Off Vehicle)

Typical NTC behavior:

Temperature Expected Resistance

0°C 10–12 kΩ
20°C 2–3 kΩ
40°C 1 kΩ

If the resistance is very low (shorted) → Replace CACT sensor.

4. Wiggle Test

Run the engine and wiggle the harness from:

Sensor plug

Intercooler pipe

Looms near radiator fan

ECM connectors

If readings fluctuate → damaged wiring.

5. Check for Boost Leaks / Intercooler Issues

Loose intercooler hose clamps

Cracked intercooler

Blocked intercooler

Leaking charge pipe

These cause higher-than-normal charge-air temperature.

6. Replace CACT Sensor

If wiring and voltages are correct but code remains → faulty sensor.

🛠️ Most Common Fixes in Workshops

1. 🌟 Cleaning / tightening CACT connector
2. 🌟 Repairing rubbed-through wires near intercooler
3. 🌟 Replacing failed CACT sensor
4. 🌟 Fixing intercooler pipe leaks
5. 🌟 Ensuring good airflow to intercooler
