DTC P0130 – 02 Sensor Circuit Malfunction Bank 1 sensor 1
DTC P0130 — O2 Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1).
🔧 DTC P0130 — O2 Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
Bank 1 Sensor 1 = Upstream O2 sensor (before catalytic converter)
This sensor controls air-fuel ratio. If readings are abnormal or circuit fails, ECU triggers P0130.
✅ Common Causes
Electrical / Wiring
Damaged O2 sensor wires (cut, rubbed, melted)
Poor connector contact / corrosion
Short to ground / short to power
Open circuit in heater or signal wire
Sensor Problems
Failed O2 sensor (slow response)
Internal heater circuit failure
Engine / Exhaust Issues
Exhaust leaks before sensor
Vacuum leaks
Rich/lean running condition
ECU issues (rare)
🔍 Diagnostic Steps (Step-by-Step)
1. Visual Inspection
Check O2 sensor wiring:
Burnt, frayed, melted?
Loose or corroded connector?
Oil/water contamination?
👉 Repair wiring first before replacing parts.
2. Check Live Data (Scanner)
Monitor Bank 1 Sensor 1 O2 Voltage:
Normal switching: 0.1V–0.9V rapidly
If FIXED at 0V or 1V → sensor/wiring fault
If switching is slow → sensor weak
Also check fuel trims:
High LTFT/STFT = vacuum leak or fuel issue
3. Test Sensor Signal Wire
Using multimeter:
Key ON, back-probe signal wire
You should see around 0.45V bias voltage from ECU
If 0V → open circuit
If battery voltage (12V) → short to power
4. Check Heater Circuit
Measure heater resistance:
Normally 3–15 ohms (varies by vehicle)
If open → replace sensor.
Check heater voltage:
With key ON, one terminal should have battery voltage.
5. Check for Exhaust Leak
Leak before the O2 sensor causes wrong readings:
Check manifold
Check gasket
Check flex pipe
Fix leaks if found
6. Replace O2 Sensor (If required)
If wiring OK and sensor slow / dead → replace upstream O2 sensor.
Use OEM / quality brand (Bosch, Denso, NTK).
⭐ Most Common Fixes
Repair damaged O2 sensor wiring
Replace Bank 1 Sensor 1 O2 sensor
Fix vacuum or exhaust leak
Clean throttle body / MAF if mixture is off
