DTC P0134 – O₂ Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 1 Sensor 1).

This code means the upstream O₂ sensor (before the catalytic converter) is not switching – the ECU sees a flat signal (usually stuck lean or stuck rich).

Meaning of P0134

Bank 1 Sensor 1 O₂ sensor is not producing voltage or showing no response.
Normal switching: 0.1V (lean) → 0.9V (rich) several times per second.
In P0134: sensor stays fixed, usually 0.45V, 0V, or 1V.

🔧 Step-by-Step Diagnosis Procedure

Step 1 – Check live data

Look at O₂ sensor voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 1).

Should switch rapidly 0.1–0.9V at warm engine.

If it stays fixed:

0V or 0.1V → Open circuit / sensor dead

0.45V constant → no activity / heater issue

0.9V → short to power

Step 2 – Check O₂ sensor heater circuit

Use multimeter:

A. Check heater resistance

Disconnect sensor.

Typical heater resistance: 3–15 ohms (varies by car).

Infinite (OL) = heater open → replace sensor.

B. Check power to heater

Key ON

One heater wire should have 12V battery

Other wire → ground from ECU

No power = fuse blown / wiring issue.

Step 3 – Check O₂ sensor signal wire

Back-probe the signal wire.

Rev engine 2500 rpm.

If voltage is steady = sensor dead or signal wire open.

Step 4 – Inspect wiring harness

Check for:

Burnt wires near exhaust

Loose connector pins

Oil contamination

Corrosion

Repair as needed.

Step 5 – Check for exhaust leaks

Check for leaks before the O₂ sensor:

Manifold crack

Gasket leak
