DTC P12A00 – Turbocharger/Supercharger Inlet Pressure Sensor Circuit.

🚗 P12A00 – Turbocharger/Supercharger Inlet Pressure Sensor Circuit

Meaning:
The ECU detects an issue in the inlet pressure sensor circuit that measures pressure before the turbocharger.
This sensor is often part of the boost pressure sensor, charge-air pressure sensor, or MAP sensor assembly depending on vehicle model.

Common Causes

Electrical

Sensor connector loose or corroded

Damaged wiring: open circuit, short to ground, short to power

Poor ground supply

Low battery voltage or voltage drop under load

Sensor Related

Faulty turbo inlet pressure sensor

Sensor internal circuit failure

Oil contamination or moisture inside the sensor

Mechanical/Intake

Boost leak at turbo inlet

Cracked inlet hose or loose clamps

Blocked air filter or restricted intake

PCV system leaks feeding into inlet pipe

🔧 Step-by-Step Diagnostic Procedure (Technician Guide)

1. Visual Inspection (Always do first)

Check the sensor connector for:

corrosion

oil intrusion

bent pins

Inspect the wiring harness near:

turbochargers (heat damage)

engine head

intake pipe areas (rubbed/worn wires)

Check turbo inlet hoses for:

cracks

loose clamps

collapsed pipe under vacuum

2. Scan Tool Check

Read live data:

Turbo inlet pressure reading (should be close to atmospheric pressure with engine OFF).

Expected: 95–102 kPa (depending on altitude)

If reading is:

0 kPa → open circuit

500+ kPa → short to power

Fixed value → sensor internal fault

3. Electrical Tests (Multimeter)

Sensor connector (3-wire type):

1. 5V Reference

Key ON: Should read 4.8–5.1V

2. Ground

Check continuity to engine ground

Should be < 0.3 Ω

3. Signal wire

Key ON engine OFF: 0.4–1.0V

Engine idling: ~1.2–1.6V (depends on intake vacuum/boost)

If any wire fails → repair harness.

4. Sensor Test

Remove the sensor and check for:

Oil contamination

Carbon deposits

Moisture

Clean or replace as needed.

5. Intake / Turbo Inspection

Check air filter condition

Ensure no intake restriction

Check turbocharger for:

damaged compressor wheel

excessive shaft play

stuck variable geometry (if equipped)

6. ECU Check (Rare)

If wiring + sensor + intake are good, suspect:

ECM internal failure

Water damage near ECU

🚀 Most Common Fixes

Replace faulty turbo inlet pressure sensor

Repair damaged wiring near turbo heat area

Clean connector and apply dielectric grease

Replace cracked turbo inlet hose

Replace clogged air filter
